SkunkTracker offers live, dynamic maps showcasing the movement of ships and boats by utilizing AIS data streams transmitted via WiFi. These data streams can originate from either personal dedicated AIS receivers or from publicly available network feeds like AISHub.net and MarineTraffic.com.
AIS (Automatic Identification System) transponders are standard on large ships, passenger vessels, and numerous recreational boats.
It's important to note that SkunkTracker necessitates an AIS radio or access to a public or private AIS feed for operation. In some cases, your boat's AIS transponder may come equipped with a network interface. If so, connecting to the same network allows you to utilize that radio. Moreover, radios can be linked through WiFi or cellular data connections.
If your radio lacks a network connection, we recommend a WiFi-RS232 converter such as the Global Cache WF2SL or the Grid Connect RN370.
